Suggest Treatment For Raised Toenails And Clear Fluid Discharge

I m currently taking Xeloda - an oral chemo drug. I ve had issues with my toe nails before but now they started lifting. I cut them down a bit to let the air at them and I soak them in tepid salt water. They re seeping a clear fluid. My oncologist has lowered my dosage of Xeloda and says that will help. Is there anything else I should be doing?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Infection of the nail and nail bed is possible. I would suggest you to visit your physician in order to check whether your infected nail has to be removed or not. Antibiotics should be taken to reduce the spread of infection. Pain killers can be taken if required. Kindly rule out any diabetes since uncontrolled sugar levels can delay the wound healing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
