Suggest Treatment For Pus Formation In Toenail Cut
I ripped my toenail away from the nailbed partially two days ago. Since then, clear liquid has been seeping from the area where the nail is no longer attached. When the liquid dries, it feels a litthe hard and is shiny. This fluid keeps building up under my nail and causing pain until I squish it all out again. Should I see my doctor or just keep cleaning and draining the wound?
Hi, Thanks for contacting HCM. When part of a nail is torn off and there is some remaining, sometimes the part that is left continues to cause problems. If the remaining nail is loose, it can build up fluid beneath and is easily expressed by pushing down on the nail. In this case, the remainder of the nail would have to be removed, and if pus is present, an antibiotic would be started as well. It most likely would not help to continue to keep cleaning the area and draining the area. It is recommended to see a physician to possibly have the remaining part removed. I hope this answered your question, if you have any further questions, I am here to help. Thanks.
