Suggest Treatment For Pulled Muscle In Arms

I have what feels like a pulled muscle in my right bicep. However, I have had a pinched nerve from a bulging disc between C5 and C6. In January of 2014 I had a laminectomy with the disc between C5 & C6 being removed and replaced with an artificial disc. The pain I experienced prior to discovering my disc problem felt like deep muscle pain. So my question is - how can I determine if the pain is from a pulled muscle or nerve pain?

Hello,
Thanks for your query.
The fact that your pain is occuring with movements indicates a muscle strain. Any strained muscle when stretched gives severe pain.

1. Give enough rest to your arm muscle. Avoid workouts and lifting weights with the arm till acute pain subsides completely.
2. Take mild pain killers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
3. Stronger prescription NSAIDS with muscle relaxants may help if simple analgesics do not help. You can consult your orthopedician for prescriptions.
4. Hot compresses to your arm will be useful pain relieving measure. You may apply a local analgesic gel on that area.
This should slowly subside with hot fomentation and proper relaxation
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
