Suggest Treatment For Prostate Enlargement And Blood In Urine

My 84 year old husband has been in the hospital for almost two weeks. it started out as a blood clot in his leg and his prostrate has been enlarged for several years and he has chosen to self medicate. All this has been fruitless he has had blood in his urine for quite sometime. at the hospital they put in a tube as he had major blockage and caused him much discomfort and more bleeding. They are trying to adjust coumiden but have not been successfull to date. He has been a beer drinker for over 40 years and drinks at least a six pack a day. I do not believe he has told the doctors this would this ad to the problem?

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Your husband has prostate enlargement and blood in urine.

He should go for ultrasound abdomen, urine examination and serum PSA level. It will give you exact idea about prostate size and volume. It can be due to benign prostatic hyperplasia or carcinoma.

For BPH he can take drugs like prazocin or terazocin. If his PSA level is normal then nothing to worry.
If his PSA level is high then he need prostate biopsy.
Then he can take treatment accordingly.
For blood in urine it can be due to urinary tract infection or some mass or stone in kidney. It will be diagnosed by ultrasound abdomen.

He should also check his PT level and INR and adjust the dosage of warferrin accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer.
