Suggest Treatment For Possible Food Poisoning

Suspected food poisoning in my 28 year old son- from airport food. He s been sick for 36 hours- vomiting, sweating, diarehea, trying to keep him hydrated which is tough. Anything else I can do- probiotics? He was fine last night- we thought it was over, then at 2-6 am vomiting started again. He can t get out of bed. Is this normal for food poisoning to linger for so long? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Patient

yes 36 hours can be a normal time range for gastroenteritis. With a young healthy person it should be over soon though and usually there is no need to worry. Patients like him i usually give prokinetics like loperamide or against the nausea give them vomex. Also some fennel or similar tea should be helpful. Usually it should be over soon. Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
