Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has been diagnosed with pleurisy. She is 17 and her first outbreak was last year when she had an upper respiratory virus and tore a pectoral minor muscle while playing a soccer game. She has asthma. She was first diagnosed with condocondritis and was later changed to pleurisy. She has now had an outbreak on 4 occasions. Each time was explainable as she had the flu, another upper resp. virus and crutches which irritated it. We can t seem to make it go awaay for good. Do you have any recommendations? We have tried physical therapy, talked with her sports medicine dr, pulmonogist, and primary dr. Steriods and anti-inflammatory nsaids help but arent a healthy long term plan.
Inflammation of the tissues that line the lungs and chest cavity is called 'pleurisy'.
Treatments used in pleurisy focuses primarily on the underlying cause. With the medications that has been administered, she should get better soon. The outcome of pleurisy treatment depends on the seriousness of the underlying disease.
However, one needs to follow:
1. Taking medications to get relieved from pain and inflammation.
2. Taking plenty of rest so that the tissues would heal back to normal.
Proper follow-up and taking precautions as advised by your doctor should help her to be back to normal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
