Suggest Treatment For Pink Color Urination

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...My father had colostomy surgery on January 5th of this year. He was in the hospital for 13 days and was sent home with a foley for his urine. It was removed last Thursday, January 27th and he has been urinating without a problem. However, he noticed that the color of his urine was an orange/pink color all day today and that the tip of his penis has a minor burning sensation. Is that a side effect of the surgery?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

These are not the side effects of the surgery, but the infection associated with catheter. My guidelines are as follows:
- offer him more and more liquids
- keep the part of penis clean with antiseptic liquid
- consult his doctor's office for urine test and necessary antibiotics for earliest control of infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
