Suggest Treatment For Pharyngitis Leading To Sore Throat, swollen Lymph Nodes And Cough

I have been sick three weeks. Started with sore throat (like strept throat--hard to swallow saliva), back of tongue sore on each side and deep cough and sore/swollen lymph nodes in neck, under jawbone. Cough went away except when talking, small irritating cough. Little or no fever. Went to immediate care walk in clinic and they did a throat culture in the office, said not strept but pharangitis. Put me on penicillin VK 500 mg and Benzonatate 100 mg 3x's day for 7 days. Throat still sore but not as bad, back and sides of tongue sore, neck lymph nodes still swollen and very sore. Runny nose has returned, and my eyes are sticky when i wake up in morning, no energy and voice is very hoarse by evening.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC ..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your query the symptoms that you are experiencing can be due to either bacterial or Viral infection and can occur in condition like upper respiratory tract infection, Sinusitis, Infectious mononucleosis etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now you can take decongestant Oral as well and nasal like Phenylephrine, do warm saline gargles, steam inhalation, saline nasal irrigation, and use a humidifier in your room..
Suck throat lozenges and take Tylenol for pain..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
