Suggest Treatment For Persistent Diarrhea

I have had diarrhea for the past ten days. There are no other symptoms I m aware of. I have been taking Imodium as directed but it does not seem to matter. I have not had a change in diet or am aware of any food allergies. The movements are usually at the two normal times daily. I m a 66 yr. old male. I was diagnosed about five years ago with RA and now receive Rhemicade. I was taking Humira with great success but due to Medicare not covering Humira I now take Rhemicade for the past year which is not helping much. I m physically active and am not overweight: 5 10 and 190 lbs. This occurred over five years ago. Blood test showed abnormally high liver enzymes. Colonoscopy, Sonogram and MRI were all negative. Enzyme levels returned to normal and the diarrhea stopped also. Any Ideas?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

The symptoms of loose motions can be due to causes like viral gastroenteritis, food poisoning, parasitic infestation, food intolerance, food allergies, laxative abuse, excess intake of tea and coffee, electrolyte imbalance etc..

As of now you should start taking anti diarrhea medication like Loperaminde, take fluid replacement therapy that is drink plenty of oral rehydration salts by dissolving in water and take more of banana, yoghurt, rice and cereals..

In case of no resolution in next 3 to 4 days consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests and stool culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised antibiotics, etc depending upon the cause diagnosed..
If it is due to food allergies the cause will be ruled out and eliminated from your diet..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
