Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough Caused Due To Lung Infection

I came down with an infection that went straight to my lungs 2 weeks ago. I am somewhat better with the supplements I am taking but I still am only about 50% of my usual self. I am coughing a lot still & living on Halls cough drops. I am 56 yrs old. Should I see a Dr to make sure it is not walking pneumonia or just stay the course & let my body heal itself.

Hi,

Noted the history of respiratory tract infection that is causing cough for the last 2 weeks for which you are taking Halls cough drops.
Sinie you are 56 years old it is mandatory to have clinical evaluation examination and investigations to know the exact cause of coughing.
Please get the following things done.
X-ray of chest as preliminary and CT scan to confirm.
Send the sputum for test.
Rule out diabetes and routine blood, urine tests.
Consult your Doctor for an actual chest examination including auscultation as a typical noises are classical for some diseases like wheezing or rhonchi for bronchospasm, crepts for pneumonia or so and all such findings to be correlated with the investigations to know the cause and get treated accordingly.
Deep breathing exercises, steam inhalation help.
Avoid polluted areas.
Stop smoking if you are doing.
Avoid scent or fumes of any sort.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
