Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough And Wheezing In A Child

My son aged 5 has a cough and very heavy wheezing, inhaling and exhaling. He has had these symptoms for 8 - 10 hours . I have given him 5ml of lemslip cough mix 3 hours ago and 20ml of calpol through the day. His cough seems to be getting better but wheezing is still very bad. He is having trouble sleeping and short of breath.....any advice ??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

See your Doctor immediately if he is wheezing and do not have a history of asthma or an asthma-like illness. Wheezing is accompanied by a fever. He may have a respiratory infection such as acute bronchitis, sinusitis, or pneumonia. He may need antibiotics for bronchitis or pneumonia. Time being, steam inhalation can help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
