Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough And Sharp Pain While Breathing

I have a cough for three days now, not super excessive but a cough and when I do it taste like flem and starting today I get a sharp pain when I breathe in and out / laugh/ cough basically anything. I went to the doctors and got mucinex and Zyrtec but I would like another opinion. Why would they give me an allergy medicine ?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent cough and sharp pain while breathing which is due to lung infection / bronchitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit pulmonologist once and get it examined. You should get X-ray chest done. Get pulmonary function test done as well to find out extent of infection. Start treatment after proper examination. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with antihistamine . Avoid cold liquids, spicy, oily and fried food. Take diet rich in multivitamins. You should gargle with saline water. You should take cough expectorants . Take steam several times a day , which will relieve congestion and make breathing easy and drink warm water with one spoon honey twice a day .
