Suggest Treatment For Paresthesia In The Limbs, Scalp And Face

Good day - I have been experiencing paresthesia in my limbs, scalp and face on an intermitted basis. It may last for a few seconds to a few minutes. When I cough, My scalp and face will tingle and can progress down to my legs. Any suggestions? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Tingling and numbness can be caused from stress or from a real physical condition that affects the nerves or changes in electrolytes.

Having a physical examination will find out if there is residual changes (to differentiate if they are subjective feeling or real findings in objective examination) during examination and in this case other tests like MRI might be needed to find the cause. Sometimes blood tests might be needed especially the electrolyte levels as they might cause paresthesias (Ca2+, Cl-, Na+, Mg+, etc).

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Antoneta Zotaj,
