Suggest Treatment For Painful Mass Under Left Rib Cage
Hello, I had a Dexa scan as I am starting a weight management program and I noticed a mass just under the left rib cage. I never noticed it (but was a little over weight in the middle) until I started getting definition in the abs from working out. It is elongated and about the size of a golf ball and didn t hurt until about a week ago and it was not the normal muscle soreness assoc. with working out, but not extreme pain by any means. Any Ideas? Should I be concerned?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Mass below the rib cage needs to be investigated. The mass could be a soft tissue swelling or it could an enlarged organ. Thus, A X-ray of chest and ultrasound abdomen are required. Since, the mass is below the rib cage, it could be in the chest or in the abdomen. Thus, you need to consult your primary healthcare provider initially for clinical assessment, relevant investigations to make a diagnosis. Management can be planned after clinical diagnosis. Management will depend on the nature of the lesion. Do post your investigations for further help.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
