Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I felt a painful lump in my tongue prior to going to bed last night, I woke up this morning to it being much more swollen and it was a struggle to even swallow let alone eat or drink. It seems to have shrunk slightly since this morning and isn't quite as painful.
The lump isn't actually visible on the top or bottom of my tongue, however it is easy to feel with my teeth and fingers - where the tongue is normally soft, this lump is essentially rock hard and there is no visible cut or anything of the like.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms a lump inside tongue can be either a foreign body granuloma, a pyogenic granuloma, swollen tongue papillae, or a benign tumor of muscles. I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and FNAC/Biopsy can be advised to you to confirm the diagnosis so that treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now to relieve pain you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like IBUPROFEN.. Apply a numbing gel containing Lignocaine over the painful lump.. Do cool compresses or suck ice pops.. Take soft diet to prevent irritation of the same..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
