Suggest Treatment For Pain, Swelling And Restricted Movement In The Knee

I am a 45 year old female and have RA, a knee that has little cartilage and ortho arthritis for 2 years (not the knee I am about to explain) so I have a high tolerance for pain. I fell on my knee earlier today and it hurt when I fell; however, it was manageable pain until 2 hours later. There is a little swelling but now I cannot bend my knee without extreme pain and it is throbbing even when I am not moving. What kind of injury does this sound like and should I go to ER (my insurance is horrible so it will cost me a lot of money) or is it okay to ride it out and see?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Your knee injury needs detailed examination by orthopedic surgeon to rule out fracture and ligament injury. As such in rheumatoid arthritis bones are weak and joints are stiff which are more prone to injury.

I would like to do X-ray of the involved knee antero-posterior and lateral views to rule out bony injury. Meanwhile start tab Ultracet twice a day for pain relief.Keep leg immobilized in long knee extension brace.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
