Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Neck With Swelling In Thyroid Due To Thyroid Nodules

I m worried about my thyroid. I have 3 nodules and none have been biopsied. First occurred in 2012 with postpartum thyroiditis. Less than one year later it doubled in size and 2 more appeared. May 2015 there was no change in size, however I ve had chronic pain in my neck and a swollen thyriod and hoarse voice for over 3 months. My TSH levels were 2.6 in May and 1.75 in August. My doctor isn t worried, though is a general practitioner and admits to not knowing much about the thyroid. Should I be pushing a second opinion?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Development of three nodules in thyroid gland post partum is can be due to lymphocytic thyroiditis. I suggest you to get thyroid function tests and anti TPO antibodies. In addition, biopsy of thyroid nodule needs to be done.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
