Suggest Treatment For Pain In Ears

Hi my name is Jared and today I jumoped off a bridge into water. The height was probab ly around 12 feet and I went under maybe 5 feet. On my way up to the top of the water I heard pressure shifting in my ears. It has been 4 hours since the jump and my ears are killing me. What can I do?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,due to sudden changes in atmospheric pressure, the ear pressure may not be able to equalize with the outside atmospheric pressure which may lead to Fluid collection in the middle ear(Might be with blood),or traumatic perforation(hole) in the Ear Drum. Both the conditions gradually heal in 6-8 weeks.

During the healing phase, take precaution that no water should go inside ear while taking bath.Use Ear plugs.Don't try to clean your ear by self.Avoid activities causing sudden changes in outside atmospheric pressure like travelling in a flight,Diving, etc.

As you are suffering from severe ear pain, you may take Analgesic(like Ibuprofen).
Oral and Nasal Decongestants will also help.

It would be advisable to consult an ENT Specialist Doctor. He will diagnose your condition by examination of your ear by Otoscope.

Hope this answers your question.Take care.
