General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain and irritation might be due to underlying tinea (fungal) infection. The issue can be persistent and recurrent in some men.
Swab microscopy is required to rule out infection. So please follow up with your primary provider. If Tinea is confirmed, then management with antifungals needs to be initiated.
Meanwhile, keep the area clean and dry. Use cotton breathable undergarments and avoid too tight-fitting clothes.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
