Suggest Treatment For Osteoarthritis In The Knee

My mother aged 62 yrs is suffering from Osteoarthritic changes both knees.
According to the findings given by M.D Radiologist " Both knee spaces
are diminished(more at medial compartments) with periaticular
sclerosis. Mild soft tissue swelling seen around both knee.
Evidence of marked osteophytic degenerative changes noted along
articulating surfaces of tibia,femur & patella-patello-femoral joint
space is diminised.

X-Ray: Both knee A.P- Standing & Lateral views.

I am anxious to know whether by HIGH TIVIAL OSTEOTAMI by mother can

walk properly and get relief from the pain she is facing daily.

Thanking you

hi
I have read through your question and understand your concerns, your mother seems to be suffering with osteoarthritis of both knees. It is a quite common condition in old age.

In her case the condition is quite advanced and high tibial osteotomy may be only of little help.Though with the advancements in proceedures and equipments we can try but it will be of limited use for your mother considering the amount of stress that she will undergo during the surgery at this age.

total knee replacement is currently the best option that she can pursue.

At a GOOD HOSPITAL this operation is quite successful, which will give you an almost pain free experience after surgery.

the range of movement of the knee joint will remain the same. It might not have improved nor will get worse.

this new replaced knees are safe from wear and tear for about 20 yrs depending upon the implant.

wish you a speedy recovery..!!
god bless
