Suggest Treatment For Oily Skin

Hello Doctor, I am 33 years male and my skin type is oily. I am having melasma from last 5 years, I had undergone treatments like laster, chemical peel and medicines and it works a bit for temporary solution. I am not using any treatment or medicine from last 1.5 year except home treatments like turmeric + lemon juice + besan paste every alternate day. Melasma spots are very much lighter now but it but still visible and facial skin tone is uneven including dark spots. I also have pimple problem now and then. My cousin worked in a beauty parlour suggested me Lomela cream every night for 2 3 months so kindly suggest should I use that or not, any side effect or any thing else you would like to recommentd Thanks Shail S

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Melasma is recurrent.
Therefore maintenance treatment with strict sun protection and a pigment reducing creams is recommended.
Home remedies that you are using are not approved for treatment and I suggest that you discontinue with these.
The cream suggested by your cousin is a combination of mometasone+tretinoin+hydroquinone. It is gold standard combination for treatment of melasma.
However, it is a prescription product and should never be used on advice of a friend or cousin.
This combination cream is usually prescribed by dermatologist only for the first 6-8 weeks of treatment.
It can cause side effects like skin thinning, acne, hirsutism on long term regular use.
After the initial phase of treatment with this combination, patient is usually switched on to to safer yet effective pigment reducing ingredients like glycolic acid, kojic acid, hydroquinone etc.
I suggest you to visit a dermatologist for the needful.
You may also opt for a few sessions of chemical peeling from your treating dermatologist.

Regards
