Suggest Treatment For Occipital Headaches

I have a 58 yo old friend who in the past 4 days has had 2 episodes of visual disturbances lasting a few seconds each. Describes them as very irregular multidirectional jagged zig zags lines. Had a bad occipital headache precipitating the first event. Second one was late at night when she got out of bed. Lost her balance and fell. Has had some migraines in the past but no visual disturbances. No cardiac history or previous neurovascular issues. She does take a cholesterol drug not sure which one. Said her most recent cholesterol level was in the 270 s. Should she go to the ER. Is this neurovascular or migraine related?

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi. I would perhaps look at the blood pressure of your friend initially. Sometimes high blood pressure can cause such symptoms. If the blood pressure is normal I would recommend an ophthalmologist consultation as visual disturbances accompanied by occipital headache might be due to change in power of the lens.
And would also like to know more about migraine history like the number of migraine attacks in the recent past and whether she is on any medications for migraine. If it is not migraine also, then we have to do some investigations to know about the cause.
Hope the above information helps you. Thanks.
