Suggest Treatment For Numbness In The Arm After Injury

Hi there! Today, while in the gym, I was doing overhead dumbbell presses with heavy weight when I heard and felt a loud pop in my left shoulder. After setting the weights back down, I clutched that shoulder and I felt a second pop. I ve felt some numbness in my left arm and dull pain in my side deltoid area since about an hour ago, when it occurred. Can you tell me what kind of injury occurred, and how I can treat it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

High chances are you got your muscle pulled which is causing the pain. Although to confirm, I suggest you visit a physician and get it checked. A proper physical examination is necessary to see if it’s just muscle spasm or anything else. About treatment, I suggest you take adequate rest and for pain relief ibuprofen can help. Avoid going to gym for at least a week. Do follow your doctor’s advice for quick recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
