Suggest Treatment For Neck Pain And Recurrent Sinus Infection

In the past 4 month I have been treated 3 times for sinus infection. I just finished the last antibiotic about 10 days ago. But I am not sure if it has completely cleared up, and about 4 days ago I started having neck pain on the right side and closer to my throat than to my spine. Plus I am getting some pain or pressure in my ears.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per query you have symptoms of neck pain with recurrent sinus infection and you took antibiotic for the same which is not giving you exact relief. Ear pressure, neck pain are the symptoms you should be concerned about. I would suggest you to get prescribed antibiotics first of all, as the antibiotics you have taken are not the specific ones to treat sinusitis. Hence, you are not feeling completely better. Visit ENT specialist once.

1)Get an X-ray of the paranasal sinuses to confirm the diagnosis and check for any blockage of the sinuses.

2) Do steam inhalation 2-3 times in a day. Steam is a very good nasal decongestant; it helps in reducing your problem sooner.

3)Use saline nasal spray as frequently as possible. Saline is also a powerful decongestant without any side effects.

4)If phlegm is present, you can try using ambroxol or bromhexine (both come under various brand names).

5)Do not stress up. In your age, because of the atrophy of the nasal glands the lubrication of the nose will not be functioning effectively, hence, the delay in healing. Stress worsens your problems; hence, you need to avoid stress as far as possible.

6)Neck pain can cause dizziness (cervical vertigo).

7) Drink plenty of warm water. Avoid smoking/coffee/chilled food and beverages.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
