Suggest Treatment For Nasal Congestion In One Nostril And Cough

Hello ! Doctor I am having cold since two weeks , one nostril is clear and the right one is blocked . I was not having cold for the last one year. One day I was performing yoga it started. now little relaxed. I took only citrizen liquid(Syrup).Please tell me the reason of cold in one nostril only. Both cold and cough from one nostril.

As per your query cold in one nostril leading to congestion seems to be related to Unilateral Sinusitis and due to infection and inflammation in sinus there is a possibility that there is fluid/mucous accumulation in sinus and as the sinus drain through nose there is congestion and mucous drainage from on nostril..
You need to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can advise you to get PNS VIEW x-ray or nasal endoscopy done to rule out the exact cause of the problem and treat you accordingly..
Sinusitis can be treated with antibiotics, decongestants, saline irrigation, steam inhalation and steroid nasal sprays..
At times surgery can be needed to drain the sinus or get the polyps removed..

As of now do steam inhalations and nasal irrigations for relief..

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have nasal congestion in one nostril and cough which is due to acuter sinusitis. I would suggest you to take amoxicilin/clavulanic acid along with Diphenhydramine. Do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt added in it. You should take clarithromycin.You should take anti-inflammatory painkiller Ibuprofen for relief from pain and inflammation. Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily. Do warm saline gargles. You should put xylomist nasal drops to prevent congestion. You should take chicken soup along with along with lemon tea. Visit ENT specialist once and get throat culture and sputum test done to find out exact cause and start treatment accordingly. Sip warm water after every few hours.
