Suggest Treatment For Multiple Myeloma

I have multiple myeloma diagnosed about 4 months ago - have at least 8 lesions between my shoulders and knees and pain in ribs, upper spine and arms. I am 68 and hesitant to start treatment - what would happen if I decide to let the disease take it course eg how long until I get much sicker, thanks Joy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern
Multiple myeloma is plasma cell cancer.
You should consult the haematooncologist for better treatment.
You should start the chemotherapy.
You need bone marrow biopsy and Ct scan/Bone scan and blood work: Creatinine, calcium, urinary protein for progression of disease.
Doctor can give following treatment:
Initial induction therapy followed by maintenance therapy
Chemotherapy and Immunotherpay: bortezemib and linelomide
Steroids: Dexamethasone

If not responds to medicine: Stem cell transplantation is best option
Radiation therapy can be used.
Response depends on the severity and stage of cancer
Hope this may help you
