Suggest Treatment For Mood Swings While Having Depression

thank you. what are the common symptoms of depression in addition to anxiety, loss of energy, a sense of feeling down but don t have time to feel down. I m taking care of 3 people 2 with cancer, one with dementia. I am in my 70s I m not fat but heavier than I should be because I m not working out enough; this doesn t help. I notice I seem to be more on edge, short tempered. I get angry at the way some people drive, especially when reckless and with excessive speed. (like 45 in a 25 zone) etc. I may be wrong but I would not be surprised it this is all part a depressive condition but probably mild. I do take alprazolam .5mg to help me sleep, but not all the time. Sometimes I take a second .5mg if after 2 hours I still can t sleep. My Dr. gave me trazodone 50mg and said I could take 2. I took 1 nothing; an hour later I took 1 more still nothing; really nothing! How weird. Yes I told the DR. but they are busy and I have had not a response; that was 10 days ago. One cannot call a doctor. One must go in at a bad time usually, wait for 30 min, talk for 10 min get a bp and pulse maybe gland exam at the neck. So an hour and a medication that does not work. Oh yes, I could be a little depressed. Query are their medications that help elevate ones mood a little bit? I don t want anything addictive just a little help for a month maybe?

trazodone is also an antidepressant with sleep inducing potential. apart from this you can try mirtazapine which is sedating if taken at bed time can help you in falling asleep. the problems with antidepressants that they take time to show their effect. around one to two weeks . so you may not feel immidiate elevation in mood. also antidepressants are not addictive ,they just have some withdrawal effects ,which could be over come by tapering off them rather than suddenly stopping them
