Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 62 and have been seeing my family doctor about losing my sense of taste since March this year. Just recently, I have discovered when I touch the inside of my left ear, I immediately get a metallic taste in my mouth. Ever heard of anything like that? Sorry, can t afford to pay. I will just have to try my family phisician again.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms loss of taste can be due to common conditions like Side effects of medications,Sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infection, zinc deficiency, nasal polyp, head injury, nerve damage etc.
As far as metallic taste in mouth on pressing inside the ear is concerned, it can be due to causes like infection and fluid accumulation in ear and as the throat and ear are connected via Eustachian tube therefore infected fluid seeping back to throat on pressing can be a cause..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination and laboratory investigations like otoscopy and x ray of ear, PNS view, MRI will be done to rule out the exact cause so that treatment can be done accordingly.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
