Suggest Treatment For Massive Hemorrhagic Stroke

I am a 43 yr old male. Last year after my 50 yr old brother suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke in the basal ganglia my blood pressure sky rocketed from pre hypertension to stage 2. Once I walked into a clinic with my bp at 171/121. I have been taking hctz .25 and amlodipine .05 for several months with minor results. I was able to sustain a BP at about 135 - 145/82 -86. But headaches have been at times unbearable. A few weeks ago I began exercising on a tread climber and lifting weights. For about a week the headaches had completely subsided and i even managed to drop the meds entirely. My bp was at one point 116/72. But I became comfortable and complacent and didn't watch what i was eating and reduced the exercise. Well my bp is up again in the 140s/high 80s. Should I get back on the meds or just recommit to diet and exercise. Btw, I am 5'8" and weigh 207 on a heavy frame.

I read your question and I understand your concern.

Since it seems to have been effective I would suggest turning to diet and exercise and diet first, if effective enough those are always the preferred choice. If after a month your blood pressure is still high (I think you can wait for a month as those values are high but not alarmingly so requiring urgent intervention) then medication could be added.

I hope to have been of help.
