Suggest Treatment For Manic Depressive Disorder
My father has manic depressive disorder. He is on lithium, but has not has his lithium levels checked for over 6 months. He is having trouble sleeping. He states he has not slept for 4 days now. He was ordered to take clanazepam, but felt it made him feel crazy . What course would you recommend?

Your father having bipolar mood disorder as mania and depression both present
He have to check lithium level and should take prescribed drug for prescribed duration
If depression more than low dose SSRI drug also can be added
Behavioural counselling also will be beneficial
For sleep induction zolpidem like drug can be prescribed and if anxiety associated than alprazolam can be prescribed
I suggest you to consult him to psychiatrist and discuss all these treatment plan
