19, Male. Down by my neck, near the start of my hairline, I have two little ball masses inside of my skin. They are painless and do not show at all. They are also on the same on both sides of my neck. what could they be ? I have currently have no other symptoms.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Lumps at base of neck at the start of hairline can be due to lymph node enlargement. Lymph node enlargement is not very common near the hairline however, clinical assessment is required to assess the nature of the lesion. An aspiration cytology of the lesion is required to know the nature of lesion and its management. Aspiration cytology is an office procedure wherein a fine needle is introduced into the lumps, cells are aspirated, spread on slide and stained with appropriate stain. The stained cells are examined to assess the nature and character of lesion. Further management can be planned according to diagnosis made on aspiration cytology. Infection, inflammation and neoplasms are most common cause of lymph node enlargement.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
