Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi - my baby is 3 months old. From last 2 days he is passing watery stools after every feed. He is completely on mother s feed. Yesterday he passed stool which was greenish in color. Did a routine stool test which found Pus cells 4 - 6 HPF in the stool. No blood or mucus in the stool. Is there a cause to worry?
A single episode of green color stool in an infant with exclusive breast feeding is of no concern. The recurrent episodes of green motions can be problematic as some sort of bacterial or viral infection. The presence of 4-6 pus cells per high power field in the stool is absolutely normal condition and is of no worry. Continue exclusive breast feeding, keep a watch on the urine output in form of diaper wetting, playfulness and skin issues, high fever or abnormal crying.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
