Hello,

It seems to be the geriatric symptoms, as long as the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is concern it is not the pathology, but it is the psychological phenomenon, but in this age it is very less likely it is more common in young age, if your mother is having some symptoms like IBS then it is not the IBS, but it could be intestinal pathologies, with multiple pathologies at the age of 81 years patient may have numbers of symptoms which perhaps hard to handle.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain
