Suggest Treatment For Large Hiatal Hernia And Mild Gastritis
I just had an endoscopy and was told that I have a large hiatal hernia and mild gastritis. I have had difficulty swallowing for over a year and now I have begun to have heartburn. The doctor took some biopsies but I won t know the results for a few weeks. Is this the kind of problem that surgery could help. I ve never had any problems with heartburn in the past. I m taking Omeprozal but I understand that I can t take it long term and it really hasn t helped. What suggestions do you have? Thanks
Dear- thanks for using our service, I read your question with care and will give you my medical advise. Hiatal hernia and gastritis are treated with omeprazole, diet modifications and elevate your trunk over your abdomen to avoid more acid reflux. Surgery is not the first option, mostly because this medical condition improves with medical treatment 95% of the time. However, some cases need surgery, after trying medical modalities. It is important to get the biopsy results in order to make sure that you don't have H.Pylori bacteria. Long term treatment with omeprazole sometimes is necessary. I hope that my advise has been helpful. Dr.Sara
