My mother age 75 underwent knee replacement surgery 5 weeks back. since then she has been experiencing lack of appetite and low grade fever between 98.6 - 99.5. Her normal temperature used to be 97.6. All tests appear to be normal and the knee shows good movement and no pain. Due to this she is losing weight and is feeling weak

Hi,
Welcome to HCM
Your mother has had a knee replacement surgery 5 weeks ago, now having fever with low appetite.
There is a possibility of underlying infection, as any surgery predisposes the individual for infections.
Her high age, is another risk factor.
If any preexisisting diabetes, hypertension conditions can futher make an individual vulnerable for infections and poor healing, which needs to be managed promptly.
Post Operative stress is an imp factor too.

Those were the various conditions that can have a presentation similar to your mother.
If a patient with complaints like her comes to my clinic, I would advice her investigations of complete blood haemogram, blood sugar levels, kidney and liver function tests, as it will help us to know the likelihood of infective pathology.
The complaints of low appetite is generally encountered associated with fever, management of fever will improve it.
Considering her age, It is advisable to show her to local physician.

welcome for further suggestions.
Regards,
