Suggest Treatment For Kidney Stone

I have a 4.5 mm kidney stone shown by an ultra sound three weeks ago. I went back to doctor today because it has not passed yet. How long should I wait for it to pass? My doctor said she didn t know how long I should wait but she told me to wait another month for it to pass. I had a urine test at the doctors office with my first visit and it was fine. Today I had another urine test and it tested blood in my urine. I am very nervous about this.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Generally, kidney stones less than 5 mm would easily pass off in urine without causing much problems. Sometimes, it may take about 6 months for it to be passed out of the body. Also, on most occasions, it is not noticeable as to when it was passed.
Kindly follow the flush out method (hydration) by consuming liquids as suggested by your doctor. Sometimes you may require to do it for about 3 times to flush out the stone. You need to do a regular follow-up by means of ultrasound scan to make sure that the stone has been removed from the body.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
