Suggest Treatment For Itchy Feet In A Child

My 3 yo grandson took one dose of amoxicillin and then had severely itchy feet. Topical antihistamine cream helped and he is now asleep. We will call his doc in the morning, but is he in any immediate danger now that the itching has passed and it has been 3 hours since his dose?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
Thanks for the consult.

Brief answer,
Amoxicillin can cause itchy feet which is due to delayed and mild hypersensitivity reaction.

Detailed explanation,
1. I read your query and I am happy. You mentioned that your grandson took 1 dose of amoxicillin.
2. Now complained of itchy feet. This is due to delayed and mild hypersensitivity reaction.
3. I suggest you to stop the amoxicillin and consult the doctor who suggest to take. He or she can change it to other drug.
4. Take Cetrizine syrup as it is potent antihistamine 2.5ml once a day until itchy feet gone. Or take Diphenhydramine 12.5mg tablet.

Hope this information helps you.
