Suggest Treatment For Itchy Bumps On The Back
I just participated in a 5-day defensive handgun course where we shot over 800 rounds. This is the second time in 30 years I have been out shooting and the first time I have ever shot more than a few magazines at a time. It was a brand new weapon. The course ended yesterday and today I ve noticed itchy bumps on the back of my trigger hand where you might expect residue to contact my hand after I rack the slide. Could I be allergic to gunpowder? I don t know what else it could be but I don t see any similar cases online. I normally do not have sensitive skin.

In order to deduce what the cause of your itchy bumps really is, assessing you in person would be most helpful. As an appointment can not be arranged at this time, let me suggest the following:-
1. Please do not handle guns for the next 3-5 days. If the bumps dissappear, it may be a a result of sweat from your palms while handling the guns frequently. It may also be the gun powder but if you have used guns in the past and did not experience the same issues, it's unlikely.
2. If the bumps do persist, have there been any other new products such as washing detergents, hand gels, disinfectants,etc.You may be allergic to another product or the area in which you are taking the handgun course.
3. If there is nothing new that you have come into contact with, may I ask if you are someone who experiencing atopic symptoms? As in asthma or other allergic reactions?
4. Is all else fails, please go to your local family practitioner and have a review. I do not believe it is something sinister. If you find that the bumps have extended from your hand and to your body, it would be advisable to viis your local family practitioner.
