General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi thank you for posting on HCM, Even through your symptoms suggests conjunctivitis it's better to get it diagnosed exactly as other eye conditions can also mimic eye infection. However if its conjunctivitis pain can be reduced by mild NSAIDs like ibuprofen if you are not allergic. In addition take some ice water soaked sponge or a cloth and massage around the eyes gently. Also wash your eyes 3 or 4 times with flowing clean water. Its also important not to touch your eyes unnecessarily even though they are itchy as it can worsen your infection and spread the infection to others. Mild steroid eye drops is helpful non herpes viral conjunctivitis and antibiotics drops needed for bacterial conjunctivitis which is less common. If its viral (which is most common) usually get settled by day 5 to 7/even without any treatment but it's better to seek medical advice before it. Thank you.
