Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Over the last month the tip of my penis has become irritated. I am a sixty five year old male and have never had sex with anyone other than my wife. I had prostate cancer nine years ago. I have been putting Neosporin on it twice a day. It seems to clear up but come back within a few weeks. I see my urologist every six months for a follow up to my surgery. I have been to shy to discuss this with my family doctor. Can you offer any advice.
This is mostly due to urinary tract infection. Urinary tract infections are the commonest bacterial infection in older people and the risk increases with age. Other predisposing factors in old age include diabetes, urinary tract stones, steroid use, and chronic illness impairing immune system. Advice 1. Drink plenty of water to flush out bacteria 2. Drink cranberry juice 3. Do not hold your urine. Urinate when you feel 4. Urinate after having sex to flush bacteria 5. Syrup alkaline citrate 2 teaspoonful three times daily for 1 week 6. Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily per oral for 7 days 7. Stop using Neosporin 8. Investigations – routine examination of urine, culture & sensitivity of urine Thanks
