Suggest Treatment For Irregular Periods And PCOD

Hi I had pcos history and was on metformin 8years back which helped me to reduce weight and even conceived easily though having irregular periods. Now have 5 year old daughter and still have my periods around 15days to 20 days late from the date. I am also overweight. Is it possible of pcos recurring again. Can I start having metformin again to help me reduce weight.i don t have diabetis. Thank you Rimi

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

Without examination and investigation I will not advise to start metformin

Your pelvic examination and USG needs to be done first... If needed Hormonal balance also checked

For PCOS you should loose weight by life style changes and regular exercise

If needed Hormonal pill can be prescribed to regularize period

If it is needed than metformin surely beneficial in PCOS...

But clinical correlation is necessary before that

Consult gynecologist for examination

Take care
