Hello Dr. I am 47 yr old woman. Last 4-5 months, my periods have been irregular, I skipped one month totally, then just for a day next month and the next month was normal with slightly heavy bleeding. I have done my sonogrpahy and the result says. Endometrium is thickened and echogenic (17mm) multiple cystic areas are seen in endometrium. Pl. let me know your valued opinion and course of treatment for me. Tks and regards.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello There is a possibility of endometriosis in you. Endometriosis is a condition where uterine endometrial tissues grow in places like uterine wall, ovaries etc. It may cause irregular bleeding. You need to get evaluated by a gynaecologist. Main treatment is hormonal. This endometrial tissue is esterogen dependant. Hence you may be put on esterogen reducing hormonal pills and also pain killers to reduce pain. If the symptoms are severe surgery may be required. Endometriosis is benign condition. Need not worry. It will regress with menopause. All the best
