Suggest Treatment For Ingrown Nail On The Toes

Hi. Nearly 2 years ago I had to have my big toe worked on several times due to an ingrown nail that just refused to heal properly. In all that time I m only just now close to having my nail grow in the way it originally did. Now, I have no pain in my toe, but it has felt like there was some pressure on it for a few weeks now. Went to cut my toe nail down some and realized that when I pushed down on my toenail that a clear liquid is draining out. I drained it as much as I could and gave it a few days but there s more coming out. I ve done this several times over a couple weeks now and the liquid keeps coming. The liquid isn t yellowish as if it was infected. Nor is is reddish as if it s bleeding. From what I can tell, it s perfectly clear.

Hi,

As per the complaint, an ingrown toenail is a condition in which there is the overgrowth of the toenails edges towards the soft skin inwards leading to inflammation and severe pain and swelling in the area.

It is generally seen in individuals with bigger toenails as well as it can also occur if you wear tight shoes or you do not trim the nails properly.

You might be advised creams with the combination of medications like antibiotic and antifungal creams along with steroid cream to relieve pain and swelling.

For now, you should soak your feet in warm water and when the nail and skin become soft gently raise the nail at the corners outwards and trim gently. It will prevent the nail from growing inwards.

You can also wear proper fitting shoes. Trim your nails as soon as they grow sufficiently and do not let them grow very long. You can also soak your feet in Epson salt solution.

At times in cases in which the medical or conservative treatment fails you can be advised to go for surgical treatment like a matrixectomy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
