Suggest Treatment For Ingrown Hair On Scalp, eyebrows And Face

I have been having problems with in grown hair. My entire scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, and facial skin. I have lost most of my hair, which was very long. The hair that was ingrown is about 3 inches long. I get small bumps which I have to release the hair from, as the bumps hurt. I have lost most of my eye lashes as they grow in all directions, up, down sideways, and so on. There has been no sign of infection, bleeding or discharge. Slight swelling around the bumps, but no seriously. I am diabetic, have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Also have extensive allergies, my doctor says environmental allergies, Have had skin test. Doctor says there is not much they can do for me about this hair problem, it has been going on for almost a year and is making me crazy. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history, you are having Psedo-folliculitis.

My treatment advice is:

1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream.
3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen. Consult your physician for prescription.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like Levofloxacin, Cefadroxil and Azithromycin which are to be taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
