Suggest Treatment For Infection At The Site Of Ear Piercing

Hello..I pierced my ear lobe about a month or so ago and it appears an infection has developed in one of my piercings to the point that I am unable to remove the jewelry... Could one use amoxicillin to treat an infection similar to the one described above (granted they have no allergies to penicillin or any other medications.. and that they are not on any other type of medication or anything that could possibly impact the effectiveness of the amoxicillin)?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I had gone through your question carefully and can understand your concern very well.

According to your history, i would suggest you to apply antibiotic ointment (neomycin, soframycin) or powder (neosporin) to the affected area and if pus is discharging from the affected area, then you can take oral antibiotics like amoxyciliin for 5 days.

I would also suggest you to take vitamin C tablet for speedy healing and take foods rich in vitamin C like orange, lemon juice, etc. Maintain proper hygiene of the ear.

Hope this answers your question.
