Dear Doctor. I have a infected right knee due to a fall in the Philippines. Got a wound of about 2 inches and was infected by the time I came back to Australia.. Have been taken Cephalexin prescribed by a doctor for 4 days and have not made any head way My question is how long will it be before any of the swelling will go down. Yours Roy Dekoke.. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Knee wounds can usually take 10 to 14 days time as this involves a joint. Cephalexin is an antibiotic which is given in these type to skin wounds to prevent infection. I would suggest to start with an NSAID which will help to relieve the swelling of your knee after consultation with your concerned doctor. Take rest and it will heal soon.I hope my suggestion would help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
