Suggest Treatment For Infected Baby Tooth

My son's capped baby tooth is hurting him. The pediatric dentist said his tooth is infected and prescribed antibiotics. She said we need to pull the tooth and have him wear a spacer until his permanent tooth comes in, possibly 4 or 5 years from now. Is this the standard remedy? Are there any alternative remedies? Thank you.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain, as your son is having a cap over hos tooth that is hurting him due to infection, and if you do not want to get it pulled, get an x ray of the tooth done and in case if the roots are intact and has not started resorbing that occurs to help the tooth to become loose and shed..
In that case treating the tooth with root canal treatment followed by antibiotics and painkillers will help..
In case if the roots are resorbed then removing the tooth and placing a spacer for maintaining proper space for permanent tooth to erupt in proper direction and position has t be done otherwise the adjacent teeth can drift in the empty space created by removal of tooth and can cause misalignment of teeth..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
