Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Infant With Dysfunctional Fingers, Absence Of Nails
my brother's new born child is healthy but with one malcondition, her fingers are dysfunctional. most visible symptom is her nails are not present at her finger tip. Is this any kind of disorder, if so is there any treatment available. She is just 4 days old.
It seems from your description that the baby's hands have not developed completely, which may be due to a localised problem of the hand or it may be part of a more generalised problem. We need to know the following: Are both hands affected? Which fingers affected? Feet affected? Moving the arms? Is the baby too pale? No immediate active treatment is advised. You will need to follow up with your paediatrician regularly. For the time being passive exercises by stroking the palm and opening up the fist may help. Physiotherapy will possibly be required to continue. Some cases may require surgical correction at an older age.
