Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have indigestion problems almost always, lately swallowing seems to be a problem it feels like I need to slow down or swallow harder or drink water to wash dry foods down. I get dry mouth and dry eyes and throat/gullet dry feeling a lot. I have hypothyroid and take thyroxine daily and blood pressure meds. daily I am 74 tall and slim, can't eat big meals ever, small appetite Insomnia and mild anxiety a lot. Have had gascostropy's and have stomach polyps that are benign I take pariet when digestion is bad but not on a regular basis, also mylanta if necessary .
As per your query dry eyes along with dry mouth and throat seems to be a side effect of taking thyroxine and is seen to cause decreased serous secretions from the glands and causes dryness and this seems to be the cause in your case.. You should consult your treating physician and get evaluated so that he can either reduce the dose of the dug or change the medication if possible.. Anxiety and insomnia can be treated with anti-anxiety drugs like Lorazepam.. As of now for symptomatic relief from dry mouth you can chew sugar free chewing gums as they help in stimulating saliva flow.. Saliva substitutes known as "Artificial Saliva" can be instilled many times in mouth for lubrication.. Drink plenty of water..
For dry eyes use artificial tear drops 4 to 5 times a day..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
