Suggest Treatment For Increased Passing Gas And Foul Smelling Burps

I had a colon restriction surgery 4 days ago. I have been doing great. today I woke up with my stomach feeling really really full of gas and I was vomiting then I would burp a lot and the burps smell like rotten eggs.I keep burping a lot and everytime I lay down after about 15 minutes my stomach feels full of air and I start vomiting and burping again. this has been going on all day. is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Hi

Passing gas or burps are common post colon surgery

The first thing suggested are to try to avoid foods that are known to produce more gas in the intestines (beans, cruciferous vegetables, citrus, nuts, mushrooms)

Other, sometimes overlooked culprits are carbonated beverages, chewing gum, rapid eating, and medications or foods containing sugar alcohols (sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol). Also, many people lose their ability to digest lactose, both as they age and after bowel surgery, so avoiding dairy foods containing lactose may help this problem

the foul smell and gas will decrease in few days

Staying hydrated is important following surgery. Stick to fruit and vegetable juices without pulp, water, and Gatorade. Avoid caffeinated beverages, prune juice, and other drinks with dietary fiber

Wish You Good Health
